Our Story

JILLIAN'S VERSION

In January 2015, we were both swiping through Tinder trying to find love. Luckily we both swiped right on each other and after just a few messages exchanged during the work day, we met up for drinks that same evening at Sonny's in Portland. The date went so well that we spent hours chatting and drinking their signature margaritas. We didn't want the date to end so we walked across the street to get homemade pasta (and water) at the Corner Room. Sad that he didn't kiss me goodbye, I was eager for a second date. The next night he invited me and a couple of my friends over to his friend's apartment before going out downtown. It was a snow storm and we parked my car out front, forgetting that storms in Maine mean citywide snow bans. While we were inside having fun with our friends, my car was getting towed (oops!). Although I was panicked over the whereabouts of my car, he stayed calm and helped me find it and get it out of the city impound lot the next morning. Between his calm nature and funny jokes, I was hopeful he'd stick around for the long haul. I brought him to D.C. for my brother and sister-in-law's wedding just a few months later and he fit right into the family. By the spring we were spending every day together and everything just felt natural! Over the last eight years, we've had ups and downs, celebrated plenty of accomplishments, went on travel adventures, and adopted two kitties (Lucy and Ranch!). There's no one else I'd rather spend the rest of my life with - I can truly say we make each other better!

CORY'S VERSION

It was Tuesday January 27, 2015, late in the afternoon. I was at work, swiping through Tinder when this hot chick popped up. I read her profile in detail and thought about her as a potential lifelong mate with great care. Deciding she was the one, I messaged her, asking if she wanted to get a drink what was her number. About a minute later I got it; she’s very responsive to popup notifications on her phone. A nice night of drinks turned into grabbing dinner and a hug (later found out it should have been a kiss) goodnight. An invitation to a party ensued, as the first date went pretty well. A great night and snowstorm led to me having to drive Jill to the impound to get her car, which the city towed so it could plow while we were out. She survived my friends right off the bat. Clearly, this was the woman for me. Fast-forward what honestly was like 3 months tops and she’s made some excuse to live with me in my apartment. 5-month mark, I’m feeding her niece a bottle at her brother’s wedding. I remember house shopping with her and thinking, this is a nice house and not much else. Little did I know I would end up spending almost 8 years there with her already!

Our first trip to the Azores

Here we are pictured by the caldeiras in Furnas, our favorite town in the Azores, Portugal. Furnas has been our "home base" both times we've been to the island. Earlier this year, we were lucky enough to celebrate our engagement exploring new parts of Portugal - Lisbon and Madeira.

We love exploring Maine

We love exploring Maine, especially the small towns along the Midcoast. In this photo, we were spending a long weekend in one of our favorite spots in Lincolnville and took a drive to the nearby town of Belfast.

One of our trips to sunny Florida

Living in Maine can get very cold! In this photo, we're at the Miami zoo where we were able to feed the giraffes. Every time we travel, we always seek out opportunities to visit a zoo, a farm, or somewhere with animals.
